Carpet in a Lennar homeCaring for the carpet and other flooring systems in your home is a matter of regular household cleaning. However, there are specific things to know about caring for the carpeting in your Lennar home. With the proper maintenance, you can help extend the life and look of your carpet, creating a beautiful warm atmosphere for your family and friends.

Before using any cleaning products on your carpet, you should familiarize yourself with the composition of the carpet, as well as any manufacturer’s recommendations. Certain products can cause discoloration and other damage to carpeting, so once you have chosen a product, it’s very important to test it on a small, inconspicuous area in case of damage.

Particles of dirt and debris can cause damage by getting into the fibers of the carpet. As people walk across the floor over time, the weave of the carpet can loosen and start to fray. There are two easy things to do to help prevent this type of damage: 1) remove your shoes prior to entering a carpeted room; and 2) place doormats by each entry to your home to allow everyone to wipe their feet prior to entering your home.

Vacuuming regularly is another important tip for keeping your carpet in top shape. It is recommended to vacuum at least twice a week and even more for high-traffic areas. Make sure to use a good vacuum cleaner that won’t leave streaks or tear your carpet fibers, and change the bag or empty the canister on a regular basis.

Sunlight can be one of the worst enemies of carpeting. To help prevent fading, close blinds and curtains during the day. It’s also a good idea to move furniture every few months to create different traffic patterns.
