Granite countertops in a Lennar homeCaring for your countertops is something you do practically every day – it’s likely second nature to you. Whether the countertops in your Lennar home are made of natural or synthetic products, there are a few things to be aware of.

While synthetic products will generally have a very uniform appearance, part of the beauty of natural products, like granite, comes from the fact that each piece has its own special traits. Some pieces will have lines or scratches, others will have a greater color variation, and they will each have a slightly individual texture. These distinctions are natural and should not be seen as flaws in the material.

While each product is designed for the specific environment where it will be installed, there are still some things to be aware of. No matter what the material, water and other spills should always be wiped up right away to prevent staining and other types of damage. Water and other liquids can seep under the surface at a seam, causing bulging or bubbles.

Countertops can also be scratched, chipped, and burned. Most of these issues can be avoided by handling your counters with some extra care. Always use a cutting board when using sharp knives and other utensils. A hot pad should be used to prevent burns, blisters, and other damage caused by hot pots and pans.

Make sure to check the caulking on your countertops as a regular part of your home maintenance plan. If the caulk is deteriorating or missing, replace it with the appropriate type of caulk right away. Instructions for how to use caulk can be found in the article: Caulk – A Valuable Tool for Home Maintenance.

While countertops seem very sturdy, they should never be used to stand or sit on. They are not designed to hold a person’s weight, and if damaged as a result of misuse, will not be covered under your warranty.
